About Mineral Rights Resource

Plain information for people who own or inherited mineral rights in Texas, free to read.

Who publishes this site, and why

Mineral Rights Resource is published by Mineral Rights Resource LLC, a Texas company and the maker of NetAcre™, which tells Texas mineral owners what is happening on and around their own minerals.

Most of what a new mineral owner needs to know is public record, and most of it is hard to find or written for lawyers. This site puts it in one place and in plain words.

NetAcre does not sell owner data or leads to mineral buyers, and runs no buyer or lender advertising.

Nothing here is legal, tax or investment advice. For a decision about your own minerals, talk to a Texas attorney or a CPA.

How the county pages are made

Every Monday the county pages are rewritten from the public records of the Texas Railroad Commission, the state agency that regulates oil and gas in Texas.

Each of Texas’s 254 counties has a page for the week just ended, Monday through Sunday, and a page is kept for every week since this site began. Offshore and bay areas are not shown.

The counts are made the same way as the NetAcre™ Monday county digest that owners who follow a county receive by email.

What counts as a filing

A filing is counted in the week it first appeared in the Commission’s records, which can be later than the date written on the filing itself.

The busiest counties and the most active operators are counted on drilling permits and well completions alone. Operator changes and production postings come from monthly RRC records, so what they report can be weeks or months old.

Quiet weeks, and weeks that may be incomplete

A county is quiet in a week when no filing of any of those kinds was recorded there. Its page says so plainly: “Nothing new was filed in Karnes County this week.”

The Commission’s records are read every night. When some of a week’s nightly reads did not complete, the week may be incomplete. An active county’s page then carries a notice saying so, and a quiet county’s page says we could not confirm that week’s filings, never that nothing was filed.
